The American Bobtail cat is recognisable by its bobbed tail which can range in length from one-third to one-half the length of a normal cat's tail. This is the result of a cat body type genetic mutation that affects tail development. The breed is, despite this, a sturdy one that is relatively free of health issues. The cat is moderately long and substantial, it has a full and broad chest and wide hips. The American Bobtail is quite a new breed of cat which has appeared since the late 1960s. It is also quite a rare breed and prized because of this. The coat can be short or long in length.
The Bobtail is a very active cat that loves to play as often as it can. It will play with toys and even play fetch. They are almost dog-like in their personalities. In addition to its high energy levels, the Bobtail is also very friendly and extremely intelligent. The Bobtail is able to bond well with strangers and children very well and does not mind being handled. This cat is suitable for apartment and indoor life as long as it is given the sufficient amount of exercise it craves.
