Tortoiseshell cats are cats of any breed, or no breed at all, that have coats with patches of red, brown, black, cream, chocolate or cinnamon. The size of the patches can vary from cat to can and from breed to breed. The colored patches tend to be more solid and vibrant if more white fur is present on the cat. Diluted Tortoiseshell cats are exactly the same as Tortoiseshell cats in terms of pattern, however the colored patches are more "diluted". This results in cats with patches of cream, blue, lilac or fawn. Dilute Tortoiseshell is not a breed of cat, it only refers to the pattern and color on a cat's coat.
