The Nebelung cat is a recognized breed of domestic cat. They tend to have long bodies with green eyes and long, dense fur. The Nebelung has a similar appearance to the Norwegian Forest Cat and the Maine Coon. These cats are known for having very mild dispositions. The name of the cat is supposedly a portmanteau of the German word "nebel", that means mist or fog, which could be referring to the blue/grey color of this breed's coat.. It could also come from the German medieval saga, Nibelungenlied, as the breed's progenitors, Siegfried and Brunhilde were named after two of the major figures in the Nibelungenlied.

The Nebelung is an intelligent cat that is even-tempered, good-natured and lively. They are very active cats, full of energy that love to play with toys and their human owners. They crave the interaction time they have with their owners and don't mind if it is through play, grooming or cuddling on the sofa that they get it. Despite its high energy levels, the Nebelung is perfectly capable of being an indoor cat. This breed is quite wary of strangers and tends to keep a distance from them, preferring their own family to anyone else. They are quite vocal cats and will often "communicate" with their owners about anything and everything. With socialization, the Nebelung will bond well with small children and other pets.
