American Bulldog

The American Bulldog or, Old Country Bulldog, is a muscular, well built and powerful dog with strong jaws. The strong muzzle is both short and square. The coat is short and smooth and tends to come in a range of different colors. The dog was bred to help around the farm, hunt, guard property and livestock and for use in violent sports such as bull-baiting and dog fighting. There are two variations of American Bulldog, one of which is the Scott-type American Bulldog and the other is the Johnson-type American Bulldog.

The American Bulldog is a typically happy and friendly dog. It forms very strong bonds with its owners and family. The breed is also very good with children and other dogs, but does require socialization. These dogs, due to their history and breeding, can become fiercely protective of their owner and territory. This breed is an excellent working dog and as such is intelligent and easy to train. This dog is not suitable for families that have smaller animals and cats as pets due to the American Bulldog's high prey drive. The American Bulldog makes a fantastic watch and guard dog.
