The Collie is a distinctive type of herding dog. The breeds tend to originate from Britain. It is a medium sized and very agile breed with a pointed snout. They have a very fox-like appearance. They can have both long and short-haired coats that come in a range of colors. Collies are highly active and are full of energy. Many Collie type dogs do not have the term Collie in their name. Some of the more famous Collie breeds of dog are the Border Collie and the Rough Collie.

Collies are extremely energetic with great stamina. They also tend to be some of the most intelligent dog breeds there are, able to learn commands and tricks very quickly. They are always hard workers, eager to please and highly affectionate towards their owners and families. They are also intensely loyal and protective of their families and territory. They are often considered as unsuitable pets for families, especially those with young children as few owners can give the Collie breeds the amount of physical and mental stimulation that these dogs need on a daily basis.
